“We’ve got some new EnChroma Lenses Jez.”
We tried to be very cool with this news. However, with the results that we’re seeing at the moment with the current EnChroma® lenses for colour blindness (colour vision deficiency) we were really both excited and intrigued about what they’ve been creating. Admittedly, not everyone gets excited by lenses for glasses but it’s what we do…
EnChroma® Lx Series for Low Vision and Age-Related Eye Conditions
That’s the proper title for these new lenses. We suspect they’ll just be referred to as “EnChroma® Lx”. However, these aren’t designed for helping people with colour vision deficiency – they’re for people with extremely low vision (to the point of becoming registered blind) and people with, as it says on the label, age-related eye conditions.
According to the World Health Organisation, there are millions (possibly a billion) of people in the world who suffer from severe forms of visual impairment. Many of these visual impairments develop with age with approximately one out of every three adults having some form of vision-reducing eye condition by the age of 65. These often begin to present themselves around the age of 50. As our population ages, age-related visual impairments such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration are expected to increase rapidly
What do these new EnChroma lenses do?
Using the technology that they’ve developed in making their lenses for colour vision deficiency, EnChroma have created 4 lenses that help to cut out glare and increase colour perception.
With age related visual impairments, eyes becoming increasingly sensitive to glare. The usual solution is to use lenses that block out the light and, usually, a huge amount of the colour that we see as well.
These new lenses block out the glare whilst enhancing the colours. As we get older, we lose our ability to see colour so vividly, so even if you don’t have any other sight related conditions, these glasses will still be able to help you experience the world around you as you did when you were younger.

As soon as our kit has arrived, we’ll let you know. We know they’ll be available in non-prescription, prescription and varifocal lenses and will be able to go in any of the frames we have in store. In the meantime, if your sight isn’t quite what you think it should be, do get in touch and we’ll book you in for an eye examination
