Glasses lenses are generally something that you have to trust your optician with. You’ve had your eye examination, your Optometrist will have written up your prescription and made recommendations and then you go off to choose a frame. As much as we’ve got an awesome range of frames, the lenses are the bit that are going to do the job!
With over 35 years of experience, we’ve seen the technology involved in the creation of lenses develop rapidly. They’re lighter and thinner than ever before, the coatings, tints and variations in prescriptions that can be incorporated into a lens increase yearly.
As an independent optical practice, we’re not required to use a particular brand or supplier of lenses. We choose who we work with by trying them ourselves and making sure that we understand the technology that’s going into them.
Have we got favourite lenses?
At the moment we’re rather impressed with the new Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™ range that Essilor have released. These are properly clear lenses inside and are darker than ever outdoors – and change really fast, in both directions. They come with blue light and UV protection as standard, reduce glare and can enhance rather than dull your colour vision.
We’re currently trialling a couple of new products from Essilor. All lens manufacturers make big claims about their new technology with lots of complex language. We want to know if they work in the real world! As ever, we’ll keep you up to date on the blog with our findings.
EnChroma®
EnChroma® lenses can make a life changing difference to those with colour vision deficiency that try them. We think they’re amazing and you can find out all about them on our EnChroma® page.
