We’ve made it to 2025. Well done us.
In that it’s the season of resolutions, we thought we’d add our own little nudge to those of you out there who’ve got prescription glasses – but don’t wear them.
Go with us on this one… You’ve had your eyes examined and through that process you’ve seen (excuse the pun, although it’s intended!) that prescription glasses can help you see more clearly.
You’ve paid to have those glasses made up for you, had them fitted and taken them home.
And now you’re not wearing them. Making life harder for yourself – potentially increasing headaches, making it harder to read/work/drive and making you more tired.
So why? We thought we’d take a look at the reasons that people give us for not wearing them…
1. I don’t like how I look in the glasses (or my significant other doesn’t)
They seemed a good idea in the shop. Or you just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Or you went for the cheap ones. Then they came and you really don’t like how they look.
Maybe it’s time to pop in and see us. We may well be able to use your lenses in a different frame and that could make all the difference. We want you to smile when you look at yourself wearing them. If your significant other doesn’t like them and they make you smile… we’d suggest that you do you!
2. But I’m not old enough for glasses
There’s not a huge amount we can do to control how our eyes change over time. We’re all different and if you get through life never needing glasses, you’re definitely in a very , very small minority. We’re fairly sure that age isn’t a reason to stop you having clear vision – and as you’ll see in the shop, we’re not ones for ‘boring’ frames.
3. The Comfort Issue
Poorly fitting glasses can be uncomfortable – especially if they rub on your ears, pinch or slip down. The answer to this is really simple! Pop in and see us and we’ll adjust them to they don’t. All our frames in store have been chosen to be adjustable in as many ways as possible – and we can add extra nose pads to most if necessary.
4. Forgetfulness or Inconvenience
So many people “forget” their glasses (you think we don’t notice…?) – often believing they can “get by” without them, especially if their vision issues are minor. In reality, not wearing them can cause more eye strain, fatigue and create an increased risk of accidents – whether that’s driving or misreading fine print. We’ve also got some VERY cool glasses chains if you need them.
If you need contact lenses or glasses for sport, just let us know – there are plenty of ways we can help!
5. Fear of Dependence
But wearing glasses regularly will make my vision worse over time or create dependency. Let’s bust this myth right now! Glasses correct your vision temporarily; they don’t weaken the eyes or accelerate deterioration.
