EYES on changing light: introducing ShadeShift

If you live in St Albans, you’ll know the weather rarely sticks to one plan.

Bright sunshine on the school run. Grey skies by lunchtime. Low glare just as you’re driving home. Our eyes are constantly adapting to changing light throughout the day.

Which is exactly why we’ve introduced something new at EYES on St Albans: ShadeShift lenses.

And yes, before you ask, we’ve been working on this alongside everything else that’s been happening recently. Between launching our JL Spex collection, keeping the shelves full of fabulous frames and delivering our usual mix of spex, hugs and rock’n’roll, ShadeShift has been quietly developing in the background.

Clear indoors. Colour outdoors.

ShadeShift lenses are completely clear indoors. Step outside and they gently shift into colour as they react to daylight. When you head back inside, they return to clear again.

It means one pair of glasses can comfortably handle changing light throughout the day. No swapping between glasses and sunglasses, and no digging around in bags when the sun suddenly appears.

ShadeShift lenses also help protect your eyes from UV and glare while helping keep your vision comfortable and your day in focus.

More colour, more choice

One of the things we wanted to do differently with ShadeShift was offer far more colour choice.

The ShadeShift collection includes 22 different colours, each moving from completely clear to colour and back again in seconds. Some are subtle and everyday. Others add a little more personality.

And if you’re looking for dedicated sunglasses, we’ve expanded that choice too. We now offer over 40 tint colours, along with a wide selection of mirrored lenses in different combinations. Prescription sunglasses should (can? must???!) be fun as well as functional.

Still an Essilor Expert practice

ShadeShift sits alongside the lenses we already offer.

EYES on St Albans is still an Essilor Expert practice, providing advanced Varilux varifocal lenses and Transitions lenses for those who prefer well-known branded options. ShadeShift simply adds another option to help match lenses more closely to how people actually live their lives.

All ShadeShift lenses come with the same premium coatings we include as standard at EYES. That means protection from UVA and UVB, glare reduction and durable coatings designed for everyday wear.
