JL Spex is Jez’s eyewear collection.
Designed by Jez.
Handmade in Italy.
Built properly.
This has been in the making since 1983, when Jez first started in the optical industry. Opening EYES on St Albans was one part of the plan. Creating a collection of his own was always another. This feels like the missing piece. For now.
JL Spex is shaped by experience. Years at the dispensing desk. Thousands of fittings. Knowing exactly how frames should sit, feel and last. Nothing here is accidental. Nothing is overworked.
Confident. Considered.
And just a little bit rebellious.
Built to take it
JL Spex frames are made from the finest-grade Italian acetate. Strong. Durable. Made to age well (a bit like Jez…)
Pinned and riveted joints give each frame weight and balance. These are glasses that feel solid in your hands and stay that way on your face. No shortcuts. No throwaway design.
Every frame is checked by Jez in-store before he glazes it. When everything is right, the final detail is added by hand: the JL Spex sterling silver signature insignia. Quiet. Deliberate. Earned.
Colour that knows what it’s doing
Ten styles. Six colours each.
Midnight Black.
Classic Tortoise.
Electric Blue.
Scarlet.
Ultraviolet.
Studio Olive.

Some frames keep things understated. Others lean into colour and confidence. All of them are designed to be worn properly, every day, without trying too hard.
This is eyewear that works with who you are, not against it. We don’t like it when that happens.
Small batches. No noise.
JL Spex is produced in small batches. Always will be.
Availability is fluid. Styles and colours return, shift and evolve over time. Not mass produced. Not overstocked. Just made well, in the right quantities.
If something catches your eye, come in and try it. We’ll take care of the rest.
