Looking after your EYES shouldn’t be a chore.
From the moment we opened the shop, we were determined that coming to have an EYES examination or choose new glasses should be an experience, not an inconvenience in your busy day.
Over time this ethos has developed into “Spex, hugs and rock’n’roll” – blending the best eyecare with the best eyewear, inclusive and wide ranging community action with championing our local independent businesses and an appreciation of great music.

Your visit
If you’ve not been before, here’s what we think you need to know:
- There’s 3 hours free parking in the carpark near by. There is also some unlimited onstreet parking – but please be aware that some areas require a permit!
- You can fit a wheelchair or buggy through our door and the entire shop is step-free. If you need any assistance, just ask.
- Please ask if you need to use our toilet.
- We often keep the door shut so we don’t heat/cool the street – just come in!
- There are plenty of places very close by to get a coffee or food
- If there’s anything else we can do to make your visit more accessible, just let us know.
Take a tour
We know for some people it’s really important that they know where they’re going. Our virtual tour shows you around here. Sometimes we do move a display (or add an extra motorbike to the collection!) but this gives you a real feel for what it’s like.

It’s all about what you need…
EYES Examinations – our fully comprehensive examinations include everything. No added charges for extra tests like retinal screening (OCT). They take about an hour to ensure we’re as thorough as we can be.
Had an eye test somewhere else but want frames and lenses from us? No problem at all! Just bring your prescription in and we’ll work our magic.
Contact Lenses – our optometrists work with you to find out the best lenses for your requirements. Need some to try before you commit? Consider them ordered for you.
New lenses for existing frames? There’s no need to have new glasses every time your prescription changes. All our frames are robust enough to withstand up to (about) 3 lens changes.
