EYES on heartwarming

We’ve been back open for just over a month now and it has been an utter joy to have people back in the shop. There’s also been other heartwarming stuff happening (and don’t we all still need that in our lives?!) both in St Albans and slightly futher afield.

Summer Yarnbomb

After the success of the Christmas yarnbomb in St Albans which had well over a thousand of you downloading the app to follow the trail, when the words ‘summer yarnbomb’ were mentioned we of course, offered the use of the app again. This year we’re hoping that the 12 postbox toppers will not only bring smiles to the faces of people in the centre of St Albans, but that those good people will also spare what they can to donate to the two charities that are being supported this year – St Albans Foodbank and Open Door.

Our sponsored box is shared with DigitalJen, is 2nd from left on the middle row and can be found outside Robert Dyas on St Peter’s Street in the town centre. The full map is on our app – download it from the Apple or Google stores – just search for EYES on St Albans.

Turning unpleasant into heartwarming

Over the weekend, we heard that a solider serving in the Rifles Regiment in Lancashire had had his car broken into whilst home on leave having been working on the ambulances for the COVID effort. Not only had his medal from serving in Afghanistan been stolen but also his EnChroma glasses.

Whilst there was nothing we could do about the medal, there was certainly one thing we could help with – replacing the glasses. With a quick discussion between us and our EnChroma colleagues in the USA, a new pair have been ordered and Jez will be heading up north once they arrive to present them to him.

Even better news is that the medal has been recovered too so that’s an even better ‘feel good’ story

Just in case you missed the barrage of social media posts (@eyesonstalbans), you can now request an appointment via our app. Whilst we remain physically distant, we will never be socially distant and look forward to seeing you soon. We’ve plans afoot for an event in our little bit of The Quadrant later in August so keep an eye on our social media accounts for more news!
